Founded in early 2019, the Reno Seed Fund is Nevada’s most active angel fund, with the goal of driving innovation, creating jobs, and building wealth in Northern Nevada. Though our focus is on leading investments in our region, we round out our activities with partnership investments across Mountain West.

We believe in a rigorous due diligence process for all of our investments, and consider companies across a broad selection of industries that includes SaaS, IoT, healthcare, e-commerce and consumer products. We try to keep an open mind - as long as a business has the potential to scale rapidly we’re happy to talk.

We also believe in taking an active advisory role alongside our portfolio companies. Our operations committee leverages a deep bench of successful founders, industry leaders and entrepreneurs to guide the next generation of executives and we maintain active contact with each company in our portfolio on an ongoing basis.

RSF by the Numbers

  • Investments range from $50K to $500K. Our Fund invests first, with our LPs co-investing alongside.
  • 70% of our fund is earmarked for companies with significant presence in Northern Nevada
  • 50% of our investments are in SaaS companies
  • We typically invest in post-revenue or near-revenue companies with $3M to $6M million pre-money valuations

Our Investment Criteria

Must-haves

  • Post-revenue or near-revenue business.
  • Pre-money valuation under $10M (targeting $1M to $6M).
  • Rapidly scalable business with a believable 5-year plan to $10M+ in ARR.

Nice-to-haves

  • A significant operating presence in Northern Nevada (i.e., headquarters or major division) - this is a must-have if we are leading the round
  • Multiple-founder team
  • Unique and defensible IP

Our Process

We try to vary our approach according to the timelines and individual needs of the startup, but a typical process looks like this:

  1. Submission: Your submission will be reviewed within two weeks.
  2. Screening: If we feel there might be a match, we’ll schedule an introductory zoom meeting
  3. Learning: If the intro goes well we’ll ask you to pitch on a recorded zoom session - 15 minutes for the pitch, 15 for Q&A. After the pitch the screening committee reviews all pitches - if approved the deal is passed to Due Diligence.
  4. Due Diligence: Our Due Diligence process varies in length depending on the investment, from a few days to 3-4 months.
  5. Final Decision: The Investment Committee holds a final vote to fund the deal.
